BTW, even though it's very unhealthy on many levels, since you guys want to stay away from beer due to liver and dehydration issues, might want to drink a couple extra sodas a day (if you arent diabetic), soda is a great way to get fat also.

Heh If I really wanted to bust my hump to lose the weight, i could...Weight falls off me pretty easily if I give it some real effort. The problem is wanting to put in real effort to lose weight. Like late at night for me I get the munchies, if I have discipline and don't eat after dinner, I can easily shed pounds. If I generally avoid soda and beer throughout the week, I can shed pounds. I need to trim down some now, then hit the gym hardcore again so ill be adding muscle to a lean frame, instead of being ripped and having kind of a biker beer gut heh.

Ok I must be the opposite of all of you I CAN'T gain the weight. It is just not happening for me and everyone is getting concerened. They are talking g-tube right now and I really don't think I need it. I eat non-stop but can't seem to put on the pounds. Does anyone have any suggestions??? I could use all the help I can on this one. I am trying to get as many shakes as I can...buy and make them. I put peanut butter on a lot of stuff...and cheese. It isn't like I don't eat either, plus my roommates make sure I eat a lot!!! And of course my boyfriend makes sure I eat my big 3 meals a day at least...I eat a lot but can't seem to get past 112 pounds. I have dropped like 4 sizes in the last 2 months which is wicked bad! Thanks for your help!!

Hi Kat

I love your name. Just wanted to say to gain weight we must be consistent and eating three meals for a person with CF is not nearly enough. I would say try to increase your snacks. If you eat more carbs in the meal try and workout after. Working out after a high calorie meal helps to add the muscle (Adding protein of course). The more you workout the better your appetite will be. I also think stressing and worrying does not help weight gain. Try to focus on a numbe to gain weight in your mind. Focus on that number and think of it in a positive way and you will see eventually you will achieve your goal. Eating mini meals througout the day is good too. Try and combine protein, carbs and good fats into your meals. I love to eat a large cracker with almond butter and a little bit of jelly. I am still trying to gain weight but it is coming on about two to three pounds per week. You can do it. I feel that exercise will help in so many ways

My situation is close to your's, Sean! I must've gained at least 20 lbs. since my divorce a year ago--but then, again, back then I was always so hungry and barely eating, maybe I was too underweight for my health!! I finally had the freedom to eat what I wanted, and how much, eventually ended up gaining extra pounds!
Anyway, I still got a natural excercise plan--raise arm to mouth, back to table, back to mouth (similar to the "Beer Curls")
Just kiddin, I got a brisk 10 minute walk to the train station from home; then from the train station to work, which is another 10 to 13 minutes of walking! (tough in the rain!) And, of course it's repeated for on the way home!
Then, since there are absolutely NO decent restaurants, udon shops, etc., I have no choice than to eat the "cuisine of the day" (Company's Lunch Box), in which the specialty always contains fish (can't eat the whole type, hate it when their eyes are looking right at ya!) and, of course, RICE!! Most cases, there's not enough calories in the lunch, so I'm starving by five pm.
Next potent stuff to beer, is Rice Sake!! Had that with Sushi a week ago, taking the wife--boy was I feeling go~od!! Fortunately, we waited before getting on a train, hate to waste an estimate $80 worth of "Shark Bait" on the way home!! However, the funny part was, about two hours later, I was hungry again, and had Mickey Dee's specialty for a midnight (it was eleven pm) snack!!
I had to be carefull about the alchohol, due to the liver involvement. I won't drink if I haven't been feeling so well lately, nor will I drink if I have work the next day! To many episodes of bad days related to alcohol changed that situation. So, my average intake is maybe twice a year or so.
Mehgan, congrats! If you knew what you were doing right, maybe you can increase that value when you go back to work! (to add on the plus alpha factor for being active again due to work)
