Well, IUI #2 Was Bust. RE wants to put me on Clomid

Any CFers have any experience with Clomid? Did you have any negative side effects?

I am a little nervous because this would mean entering risk of multiples territory. But, my RE said there is a 10% risk of twins (which I think we could handle) and a less than 1% risk of triplets.

He wants to put me on Clomid because he thinks it will allow for better control/timing over my ovulation, and possibly give us more "targets" to shoot at. But the final decision is up to me...and I am hemming and hawing over it. I have to decide by Sunday. (And MH if fine with whatever I decide). I do like the idea of better control (because I think we may have been too early w/ IUI #1 and too late with IUI #2) and LOVE the idea of better odds, but I'm still nervous and looking for input.

Kristen,
I am having to automatically go to femara or clomid as my eggs are not even growing appropriately.

I am worried about the risk of multiples, but given the fact that I don't even have a mature follicle, I think my odds of multiples is low. I need the eggs to grow!!

I am debating which drug to actually choose. I know Laura used both and the clomid thinned her uterine lining too much.

I hope you come to a decision you are content with. Good luck! We're in similar boats here with our journeys not working well.

It seems a lot lately that several of us are trying without luck.

I know the feeling of being nervous first going on fertility drugs. I can't say you won't have twins, but seriously your chances are low. And the doses there gonna put you on will be low. Both the CF'ers I know close to me that got pregnant off of medicated IUI's, didn't until they had at least 2 good follicles. And thats not saying you can't with 1 good one, obviously. But I'm trying to take some of your worry away. I was on Letrazole and injectables, hopefully you don't have to do this to the point your totally desensitized but once your on the drugs you'll get more comfortable. When you've gone through a cycle and see on the ultrasound that your follicles aren't totally growing outta control you'll be more content. And if they are, well you can always opt to not have the IUI done that cycle.
I actually wouldn't do IUI's any other way. I wanted everything timed down to a T best we could. Cuz these cycles are A. expensive and B. emotionally draining and I wanted the best shot with every one.
Clomid was not a good deal for me. But Femara was fine. I ended up ditching the femara cuz I wanted to get more aggressive and didn't want to be doing IUI's for years and years on end. I had almost paid for IVF when we stopped doing IUI's so you can see how quickly it can add up with the drugs.lol We did 4 medicated iui's.

Bottom line, try the Clomid for a cycle and see how it goes. You can always tweak your plan. =)

Hope my insight helps some and that I didn't come off to abrasive. (I do that without knowing it sometimes!) I know this is a big deal and something that shouldn't be taken lightly as maybe I sound. So you need to do whats best for you.

Take Care.

Thanks to both of you. You have calmed my fears about clomid a bit. I'm still not sure if we are going to try one more natural cycle or start clomid this cycle. I have until tomorrow to decide.
