Wet Cough

Ok, for almost 3 weeks now Noah has had this VERY mucousy sounding cough. He has taken his round of antibiotics and prednisone, does treatments at home, but not at school, he doesn't have a vest so I do manual CPT (OUCH, HAND CRAMPS!), but he still has this cough. He has a bronchoscopy set for Monday morning. Any opinions on how to handle this. The pulm wasn't too concerned last week when we were there, but ordered the bronch b/c Noah keeps getting sick. ( No hospitalizations, tho!)

Did they do a culture when he first got the cough to see if he's growing any bugs and if so, what it's sensitive to? Hopefully they'll figure it out with the bronch. I guess meanwhile keep on beating that cough out of him.

No, they didn't. It was at the pulm's office, and he just decided to set up the bronch. I really like the doc, but he isn't a CF doc. He did give me an oppurtunity to see a CF doc, but I chose to stay with him. I'm not so sure I made the right choice now, as I get worried when he sound as he does, but the doc doesn't think anything of it. His only culture was two months ago, and they grew a little staff, but chalked it up to a contaminated sputum specimen as they just had him spit in a cup. Also, his IGG was a little high. Again, I was the only one worried.

IMO, might be a good idea to see the CF doctor, too! Doesn't mean you have to choose one over the other. Lots of people get second opinions or see more than one doctor.

DS hasn't had a bronch yet, but isn't it rather invasive if you're not doing regular sputum cultures? Though I imagine they'll do a culture of whatever comes out during the bronch.
