what all do you do with a port/ types on what to do

I didn't change anything when I got it. I am a little more careful when it's accessed since it's uncomfortable if someone or something bumps against it, but even that isn't really a big issue. I think you'll be glad you made the decision to get it!

I just got one and am thrilled so far (although it has never been accessed yet!). The surgery went very smoothly for me, read my blog if you want to know more.

I am on second port and wouldn't want to be without it. They can't even get a PICC line in me using contrast and the X-ray machine. My port has never limited me in any way and I have had one for over 10 years.

We have a son with Hemophilia who has had a port for years now. We don't do anything special, except he has to have labs drawn from the port if he runs a fever. He only runs a fever high enough to have to even think about it 1-2 times per year. He loves to just not think about it at all. It's never required him to modify his lifestyle, except that we now have assurances that we can always access him even when he's hard to stick in other veins.
