We've been very lucky. from what I've read here Jess seems to have a very mild case. We tend to let her try things out until we find we can't.
one trip with the Girl Scouts camping for 1 night so we decided to let her skip 1 PT and adjust the other meds so she could go. she got a terrible cough almost immediately upon returning. I spoke with several other parents of asthmatic and allergic kids and they were very bothered as well. must have been a fungus or mold or something. Luckily 1 round of some serious AB took care of it. Bottom line NO CAMPING. we tried the same thing with Horseback riding, rafting, day camp, sleepovers, gardening etc. so far so good. (but I do put my foot down on hot tubs, no way).

I think it's a lot more important that someone do their meds, breathing treatment, airway clearance, proper diet and exercise, etc. I try to do my best about those things and live as normal a life as possible otherwise. I avoid smoky places and am careful around sick people (hand sanitizer, etc) and I pay pretty close attention to my own symptoms. When I have a new symptom I tell my doc about it and we deal with it. Most people I know don't even know I'm sick unless I'm on IVs or they ask about the 15 pills I take with each meal.

I only have a couple of 'rules' for my girls...no smoky rooms and no hot tubs (at the request of our CF doctor). Obviously they have other rules, but these are my big 'CF' ones. Sometimes they complain about the hot tub rule, but I have explained that when they are older, they can make the choice to get in one, but right now I am doing what I can to keep them healthy.

Otherwise, they can play on swings, trampolines, in dirt, in lakes, whatever...
