My daughter was three when she cultured pseudomonas, so not as young as yours; we did Cipro and TOBI for three months and she has not cultured it since, going on 15 months now.

I don't recall any side effects. The timing of the meds and doing the breathing treatments was the biggest adjustment. We have continued TOBI on a 28 day on/28 day off cycle.

Hope this helps and that you get your little one's pseudo cleared up!

Briceton cultured pseudo for the first time about 4 months ago. He was hospitalized with IV infusions, Tobramycin and Maxipime for 3 weeks and we now do the 30/30 on/off cycle of Tobi. I have not noticed any side effects from the Tobi, except for the wonderful news of his culture being pseudo free 2 months ago!

Remember, these drugs are what is helping CF patient's live longer and fuller lives! The side effects seem to be minimal than the overall effect of leaving these bugs untreated. I'm sure they are doing much good for her body, considering the outcome of leaving them untouched.

I wish your little one well!

I always get a little down when new med/treatment is added to the mix. Zithromax bugged me 'cuz it was just one more drug to add. The pulmozyme added time to his CPT/Vest/Nebulizer schedule. But eventually it becomes routine, we work around it. And I remind myself that the point of taking all these meds is to keep him happy and healthy. This summer septra was added to his medication list because he cultured steno. malt -- I cried after I picked up the med from the pharmacy. Just another reminder.

DS has been on Tobi since he was 3 months old -- he's now 4 1/2 years old. He just finished a 28 day round of tobi and it seems like a mini-vacation. We can eat dinner a little earlier in the evenings, on weekends if we have something going on during our usual vest time, we just do his vest earlier.

He was on Cipro for a month two years ago. And recently in October. Didn't notice any adverse side effects other than he didn't like taking the cipro. Don't know if it was because it was the wrong color -- all his other meds are pink or if it's the grainy consistency of the medication.
