Emily's was either 15 or 17 before she started supplementing. She now gets about 3000iu's a day between a couple different supplements and her level was right around 40 last time it was checked.

Thanks everyone for your replies. So 18 was definitely not high enough, but 31 might be ok. She should probably still be on vit d supplement especially since she's not out in the sun any more like she was for the summer.

I think 31 is a little low, yeah- esp going into cold and flu season, where good vitD levels can help bolster your immune system and resp health. Our dr likes to see levels about 40.

Mine was 17 and I got an official letter from the clinic. I started taking 1000 iu per day and it went up into the 20s. I haven't had it tested again but I now take 5000 iu per day.

Melissa- the RDA for you is 600 iu per day. And you are borderline low. If I were in your shoes I would take a bit more D. D is now being shown to be essential in lots of functions including the immune system.

Caroline,

You are so right. I am going to fill up my week-long pillbox with three Citracal per day, especially now that winter is coming. I need to get more aggressive.

Prior to my kids going back to school, I was slacking on all my meds. It took me God knows how long to realize my Symbicort was at zero--I was having tightness and wheezing several times a day and starting with the perma-gurgle in my lower left. Three weeks at the end of the summer as a f/t SAHM, doing shortcuts on treatments, working late at night to catch up on the freelance stuff, not good.

Thanks for the prodding :)

We moms just have to remember to take are of ourselves sometimes! Also, don't forget that the body can only absorb about 500 mg of calcium at one time. So space out the citrical <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
