What color is your poop

Liza,

you make an interesting point. Maggie had a similar problem when she was 5 1/2 months old. She had had bowel surgery at 5 days old; was doing fine so I thought. Then at 5 1/2 months old she had another bowel obstruction due to adhesions from the previous surgery. Her symptoms for the second sugery were vomiting , keeping nothing down and lethargy...It was quite obvious there was something terrible going on. However, her poops a few days prior looked like they had spinach in them when prior to that they looked like soft, mushy baby poop. I remember thinking her poops looked wierd for a breastfed baby when it looked like spinach...maybe that was bile? I have not seen spinach in her poop since that time...But even at 6 1/2 years old I still check her poop before she flushes. I know eventually she will not let me but I am trying to teach her what a good poop is. The other day she yelled from the bathroom"Mom, it sunk, it's a good one!" Yes, I am the bowel obsessed CF mom.

Based on the comments from the surgeon and anesthesiologist that his bowels looked like those of someone who'd never had enzymes because they were meconium stained (green stuff), I suspect it's been ongoing. Just surpised it hadn't happened sooner. Hopefully we know what to look for in the future.

Spinach! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I kept commenting when he had his NG tube on intermittent suction that the contents looked like those naked juice green machine smoothies. Bleah!
