What did your parents do right/wrong?

Things my parents did right: treated me like a normal person

Things they didn't do right..: treated me like a normal person

This sums it up for me.

I think that reading on this site and listening to what other have to say - all the varying opinions - and then molding that to what works for you and your family is the best thing you can do at this point. There is no way your kid won't look back and write a list like this for you, so try not to worry too much. As a parent, try to be as normal a parent as you want your kid to be "normal."

I mentioned this in other threads...

It was basically 'ignore the elephant.' They would make sure I went to clinic and got the meds, but it was up to me to do what I needed to.

Mom, to this day, doesn't understand ....

Just a couple years ago I was talking to her about it being genetic and she said... "You were born with it?"

wow. you know what I have the most amazing parents in the world. I'm 22, studying at a big ten university, love life, and have never not tried what I wanted to do. I never held anything back and my mom is my best friend. Don't be afraid to talk, she is the best listener. She does research about new meds and stuff. She helped me find a way of fitting my meds(4 therapies, lots of pills, and stomach feeding at night) all into my life. I was never stopped from going to overnight parties, or told not to go to camp ( not CF camp, just other camps). She told me to reach for what I wanted in life. I have been and will continue to do so.

Just showing compassion for people and having a positive can do attitude my mom always had helped to give me inspiration.

I was 10 weeks premature, have had over 14 surgeries, have a stomach tube, I also have mild Cerebral Palsey. However, my mom did exercises and worked with me everyday to strengthen my muscles. Dance was the best thing ever. I took ten years of dance. My mom was actively involved in my life, but knew when to let me go on my own.

I've been living on my own now for 3 years, and don't think there is any way she could of raised me better. Let me know if you would like to talk to her. Seriously she is an amazing woman! My dad is amazing too though!

She has talked to other parents too!

Hope I've helped!
