What do you all do when traveling?

Just wondering to what extent do you protect yourselves when taking a flight somewhere? My wife and I are taking a trip in April and I am a little worried about being in a plane for 5hrs with possible sick people. Should I just suck it up and wear a mask? Take extra vitamins? Any other ideas would be great......thanks everyone.

I wear a mask now when I fly. It is really not a big deal and then you are not quite as worried about the person behind you who is hacking the whole flight<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Also, it is good to drink a lot of H2O to keep from getting dehydrated. You don't know all those travelers around you and you will most likely never see any of them again; so, if you are worried about their reaction to a mask, I would not be. You won't see them again; but, you might have to deal with an illness if you don't wear one. You want to protect the lung function you have so I challenge you to be pro-active! Let us know what you decide.

the biggest culprit for getting sick is your hands.

wash them often. wash them well. keep your hands away from your mouth when coughing (i always cover my mouth when i cough...then i realize what my hands have been touching.... ughhhhh). cough into a kleenex instead.

masks generally wont' filter viruses that may linger in the air on planes, unless you order a special one (ask an infectious disease phsycian for a recommendation on a mask).

We flew to Florida from Scotland, 9 1/2 hours, though it seemed much longer with a 2 year old. LOL. We tried to keep the boy between us and amused occaisionally he wanted to have a wander round the plane. We had a bottle of the hand sanitiser, the stuff they use on wards, and we regularly washed his ( and our ) hands. Plenty of water is a must.
