Like Anne we've dealt with a few colds since Logan started preschool in sept. He has been sick 3 times and I caught it twice. I have only caught a handful of colds from him over the last 3.5 years so it isn't a common occurrence but it does happen. And when it happens you just deal with it. My mom is a huge help and so is my husband. Well my ILs are too but not as helpful as my mom. Right now I'm at the tail end of a cold Logan gave me (and unfortunately Scarlett caught it and is miserable). I just try to keep up w/ my treatments and get as much rest as I can.
When Logan gets sick I don't share utensils or drinks with him and tell him not to touch my face. We tell him to cover his mouth when he sneezes or coughs (a tip: the pediatrician told me the other day to have children cough/sneeze into their sleeve instead of their hands so that they aren't then touching stuff w/ infected hands). He is also told not to touch Scarlett's hands or face.
Babies don't really get sick all that often - it is the toddler in preschool that is the issue. Logan goes to a really small school so he isn't exposed to as much stuff as a child in daycare or a large preschool but it still happens.
I would just tell people that you will deal with it just like every other mother. End of story.
Gotta run
