What do you take to CF clinic day

Our CF clinic day lasts for at least 2 hours; every 3 months we see the CF doc, nurse, nutritionist, RT, sometimes social worker, Now we do PFT's each time. It's a LONG day. I got this idea from another post but what is helpful for you to have while waiting with a young child? We are stuck in small doctor's office room for at least 2 hours because of infection control.
Things I bring: I have a bag I use only on clinic days filled with paper, crayons, markers, stickers, children's books. I bought these Magnetic sets of ballerinas(like paper doll idea except Magnetic and it comes in a little metal box). I also found a Play mobile set , comes in a little box with tiny magnetic people and a castle theme..It was only $10. Maggie ONLY gets to play with these toys on clinic day. I try to hoard little items like things you'ld get in goodie bag, so cheap dollar items that if it fall on the floor or gets lost I don't care if we toss it. I also have a little V tech toy that teachers letters and numbers, lots of buttons to press.

OK. Also. SNACKS ones that she loves. I usually have tootsie pops or gum as well for a treat because Maggie LOVES to talk while I am trying to listen to the doctor and if she's chewing gum or eating a lollipop she can't talk!

I also bring Purell, my own PEN to sign the million papers when we get there. I read some study about how dirty hospital pens are so I try to use my own.

We almost ALWAYS go to Target after CLinic(unless of course she's super sick). She picks out something she likes at Target(could be as simple as a new Hannah Montana toothbrush). Oh and McDonalds too.

From doing things like this, Maggie actually likes going to clinic(most of the time). But I'm always looking for new things to keep her busy. So share YOUR ideas!

Hey good ideas! We also go to target after clinic. My boy gets to pick out new hotwheels. I also bring Purell wipes and snacks. Books are nice to have because it's calming for us to read while waiting. I love the pen idea! Makes absolute sense. I have a portable dvd player which we've used but not every time. The lollipop idea is great! My guy is a little chatterbox and is just getting to that stage when he can't let me talk to anyone else with out asking a thousand questions to me at the same time.....

Ditto on the pen. List of medications. List of questions we may have and might forget with DS chatting or if the doctors are in a rush. Books or magazines for us.

Purell, Handi-wipes, my own container of sani-wipes just in case there aren't any in the room.

A backpack with DVD player, books, puzzles, drawing supplies, toys... I used to bring along a vinyl table cloth, so DS could spread out his toys and play. Also because when we used to go to CF clinics and DS was still quite young and appointments were usually 4 hours, I brought along blankets, stuffed animals, formula...

Bag with treats, juice, water.

Those are definately great idea's.
When we go, we are taking 4 kids with us. They try and get all of our CF children in one day so we dont have to make the 3 hour car ride more then once. (at least for check ups)
The things that we bring are:
Books, crayons and coloring books, hotwheels, gameboy that we borrowed, camera for the kids, Card games for the older ones and of course snacks and drinks. We are there almost 5 hours!!!! Way to long thats for sure. I wonder if it would be better to make the extra trip and split the appointments up!!

I always try to bring stuff for Doug and I also. If I have paper work to do I sometimes bring it. But I most definately bring a book. Doug would much rather be on the floor wrestling with the kids then anyhting else. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
