What do you take to CF clinic day

Great thread!! Our clinic visits are more frequent than every three months. Pretty much we go once a month for weight checks. Only once a year do we see the whole list of folks, but our monthly visits still can be about an hour and a half with the pulm, nutritionist, social worker and CF nurse. Somedays less, but somedays way more.

Our clinic has TVs with DVD/VCRs in every room. Its a HUGE help. I bring a few currently loved dvds so I don't have to rely on the current tv offerings. I always have crayons and I let Alyssa draw right on the paper that covers the exam table because she thinks its cool and its totally different from coloring in a book or on paper at home. I usually bring a snack that she hasn't had in awhile.

I'm LOL at the gum/tootsie pops. Alyssa is sooo shy with all the docs and specialists that she just clings to me the whole time.

Our needs have changed since the earlier days when I needed 12 diapers and baby cookies. These days its much easier and I'm less afraid of anything falling on the floor and going into her mouth.

This thread just makes me smile<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Our clinic still teases me about when the girls were babies (Kayla was 18 months old when Hannah was born). I would come in with my big double stroller and a huge blanket to lay on the floor so they could sit and play w/o worrying about them getting germs on them or falling off the examination table. I, too, would hoard small toys or things that they got for gifts (they got so much that they didn't notice a few things were missing) to bring. Lots of snacks and drinks as well!

I have a very dear, sweet, friend who gave me a box stocked with wrapped gifts and I am to give the girls each one during all appts to open. That way they have a new surprise to keep them busy. Lately the gifts have been a lot of Mad Libs booklets, which keeps them very busy and laughing the whole time from the silly stories they make up! I used to love them as a kid too.

Now that they are getting older, I encourage them to bring something to do or read. Both girls love to read books and look at magazines.

Besides that, I carry a small notebook in my purse at all times with notes about everything...meds that have been prescribed, phone calls that were made, weights, pft numbers, cultures, etc. When I open the notebook, I write all these things down on the right hand side. On the left hand side I write down all my questions and the answers when given. It helps me a lot since the notebook is compact (like 5X&7) I can refrence it anywhere, anytime. It's always with me.

I do keep other records in notebooks at home too, with the actual PFT printouts and culture reports and lab results, and growth charts and X-ray/CT report, etc. I don't usually take those with me to clinic appts, although I may start now that the girls are more able to carry their own things. Before I just didn't have enough hands or shoulders to carry it all!
