What drugs can I use during pregnancy?

I had a subchorionic hemorrhage/hematoma during my last two pregnancies. I learned a lot about and was tested for the clotting disorders mentioned in this thread as a result. The results were negative. I lost the first pregnancy at 9 weeks. The second one with a massive SCH, I carried to term and he is healthy. I did have a lot of bedrest. I took plenty of albuterol, pulmicort and Zithromax. I even had a chest x-ray at 5 weeks (not happy about it, but pulmonary embolism was suspected).
Anyway, I do have a clotting disorder...just in the opposite direction, called Von Willebrands/FactorVIII. It was found more than a year after the baby was born and because of a hemoptysis issue. VW is supposed to self-correct during pregnancy, but did not for my last two pregnancies, who knows why.
As for your question, your CF doctors and OB/GYN should work together to compile a safe list of meds. As TestifytoLove said, you won't have the same experience as low risk pregnant women, but everything will likely turn out well. You'll read labels that say "Don't Take while Pregnant" while popping the pills necessary to keep you both okay.

My doc put me on xopenex instead of albuterol when I began TTC this year. When I was pg with Amelia I took albuterol and when I was sick at the end I took 2 rounds of zithro back to back.

Anyway, I do have a clotting disorder...just in the opposite direction, called Von Willebrands/FactorVIII.

For future reference this is actually not a clotting disorder but a bleeding disorder. And, while I've found I can work with a perinatalogist for clotting disorders, becuase they are getting up to snuff on how clotting disorders impact pregnancy, you probably want to have a Hematologist manage your VWD.

There are 2 main treatents for VWD available currently. You can do DDAVP or estrogen. Pregnancy is supposed to rise VW levels because of the increased estrogen. However, FDA just approved a von Willebrand factor product this summer for use in VWD patients. Definitely, definitely get in with a knowledgable Hematologist if your bleeding issues get worse or you want to pursue another pregnancy. I'm betting you'd be an excellent canidate for VW factor infusion through pregnancy to control the bleeding issues.

Sorry for the hijack, but Dh and 2 of our kiddos have VWD which is what led to us adopting a severe Hemophiliac--all of which keeps me abreast of current advances in the Bleeding Disorders and community. I've been very excited about the VW factor that was released, as it means a whole new world for my 2 girls with VWD whose grandmother and great-grandmother had hysterectomies by their mid-20s because no one could control their bleeding issues.
