Well its 10;00pm monday evening and something just hit me. Dylan came into my room as he was getting ready for bed and told me that he couldnt stop going to the bathroom all day. I really hadnt noticed because we had a garage sale all weekend and I spent most of the day outside along with all the kids. I didnt think anything about it until just now. The other thing that I noticed was his appitite. He wont quit eating. We had burgers on the grill and he ate till he was full but was ready for snack, im not kidding you, 10 minutes later. It also dawned on me he was complaining all weekend about being hungry. I started getting a little concerned when he didnt want to go play today. He kept telling me that he was really tired.

Then it popped into my head about the warning signs for Diabetes. So I jumped on WebMd and looked it up. Now Im worried. I will call the clinic tomorrow and hopefully get something done. Because Diabetes is different in CF patients, I dont think I should use his primary on this one.

Is it common for children to have CFRD?? I thought that it was more common when you get older.

I need some insite

It is not as common for kids to have CFRD as older CFers, but not unheard of. Now given all the darn ailmenets out there....it could be anything tho I understand why you jump to diabetes.

Before you get yourself anymore worked up.....get his glucose tolerance test done to confirm.

Something as simple as dehydration can also have these symptoms!

Your definately right. I made the phone call now Im just waiting for a return call. When your dealing with CF, I forget about the other causes. I have to remember to stop and think first.

Thanks for reminding me.

I think it is definatly less common for diabetes to show up in younger kids but it can happen. When i was 9 i started having some symptoms and they did a glucose tolerance test on me and my doc said it was one of the highest numbers he had ever seen. Though when i went home and began checking my sugars they were never high. They have done multiple glucose tolerance test and each one is high but my sugars still remain low at home so even if your son ends up with a high number on the glucose test it could not end up turning into cfrd for a while.
