what form of oregano oil to use

I would recommend encapsulated oregano oil that you can take before meals.

For one thing, I had found with the type of 'oregano oil supplement' that the wife bought, if I didn't take it with meals, I would be burping the oregano flavor all day (yuck!isgust
I had read it somewhere, and I think I posted it somewhere on this forum when I had offered the information I found in regards to the different types of Oregano Oil (Yes, there are more than one 'Oregano Oils').
The timing in taking the oregano oil is that it passes through the stomach and is digested in the intestines to be properly absorbed. If it starts in the stomach, that's where it tastes like you had an Oregano Spaghetti for breakfast and can't get rid of the flavor for most the day.
I'm personally not in need of inhaling the oregano oil, nor will support any claims made about it's use. For one thing, it's still under research in my opinion.

P.S. The U.S. is not the only place to guarantee what the bottle claims it to be. However, the FDA does not moderate the supplements, or 'Over-the-counter' for all I know, so it's 'buyer beware'.

Mare,
Are you using hypertonic saline at all? With my experience, it has worked better than the vest and pulmo, combined. (I still use the vest and pulmo, in addition to the h/s).

I believe it's what has kept me out of the hospital longer than normal. I wouldn't say it kicks Pseudo's butt, but it really helps get the junk out, and that's a step in the right directions.

I did attend the course "ABC's of CF Nutrition" at the CFF.org Conference, in Denver, last November.

I posed a question about using oil of oregano.

Dr. Solomon, from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, answered to the group and also came back to speak to me individually.

She said it was a good question. There aren't any studies concerning the use of supplements and cystic fibrosis and she would be concerned about three things..nebulizing oil into the lungs, the purity of the supplements, especially in the United States where they're not controlled, and also overdosing on Vitamin A.

I have asthma too. I would ask around on the board about that: if they use h/s even though they have asthma. I'm curious.

I have been taking Oregano Oil for several months now and I can honestly say that it has made a difference!

I use two forms, OregaResp 450 mg capsules and H2 Orega which is a liquid water soluble form which is easily absorbed. Do a Google search and you will find many vendors that have it for sale. You can shop around for the best prices.
I purchase mine from The Tao of Herbs web site.

I take one 450 mg cap a day in the morning and use the H2 Orega, 4 drops under the tongue whenever I get a sinus or throat infection. I also nebulize the H2 Orega with 3 mls of albuterol when I feel particularly congested. What the nebulized treatment does for me is that it calms my lungs down and makes it a lot easier for me to bring junk up when I follow it with Hypertonic Saline. I use 5 drops of the H2 with albuterol.

The best quality Oregano Oil products you can find are produced by North American Herb and Spice and it is designated as P73. The p73 designation is important because it is the only form of Oregano Oil being used by labs across the globe to conduct tests. There is lots of info on this on this web site. Just do a search of Sean Davis entries here and you will find numerous links to laboratories and studies that have used the Oregano P73 product.

A strong word of caution.... The first time I put the Oregano Oil under my tongue it made me almost puke. It has a very strong burning taste. Keep a glass of cold liquid handy to wash it down. It doesn't really burn but just like pepper it feels hot.
The idea is to hold it under your tongue as long as you can before you swallow it in order for the best absorption to take place. Now it doesn't bother me a bit.

Also.. A double word of caution... the first time I nebulized the H2 Orega it made me cough like crazy, using only a couple drops in my albuterol. Now I use 5 drops and I hardly notice it.

I am 58 years old with a long history as an adult of partial lung collapses. I spent the first 12 years of my life in and out of hospitals. My fev1 is 33% at last read in November of last year. I have been told I have a very mild case of CF although my childhood points to just the opposite.

Oregano Oil is not for everyone but in my 58 years of dealing with this illness, using Oregano Oil products and Hypertonic Saline have made the biggest difference and given me a great deal of optimism for my future.

If you want to try it, go slow!! It is also important to know that it is a blood thinner so you should make sure you are taking some vitamin K as in ADEKS and supplement with more of it if you use the OO more than a couple times a day. You need to monitor yourself very carefully. Few doctors would endorse you using it but more and more are realizing that those that have been using it and getting fewer infections must be doing something right!

I hope this helps!!

Sincerely:
