Well, back from the Ped's office. They thought at first he was having a seizure but he was making eye contact with me through out turning blue/purple and he was more collapsing, not rigid. Now they think maybe he was just holding his breath......

They did say to call 911 if it happens again. And the Dr. wants me to try to look to see if his gums and tongue are blue. Sad news is he's back down in weight. 17lbs. 12 oz. He's almost 14 mos old.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We should have the genetic results next week.

YOU DEFINITELY HAVE MINE & MY FAMILY'S PRAYERS!!!
as if waiting on the results is not hard enough!!!
I have 4 boys, and only "nervous" w/ last one........i would COMPLETELY flip if that would happen to me.

Definitely call 911......if it happens again! false alarms are much better than waiting for a callback and something worse happens......turning blue is not a good sign of anything good to come.

good luck, keep us posted.

I think i know what your doctor was getting at when he/she asked whether or not your child was breathing. Many perfectly healthy toddlers/babies when they get upset stop breathing. It is not intentional or manipulative but for whatever reason they do it. Usually they grow out of it though by the age of 4 or 5. It can vary in severity some kids do it until they pass out and they often look like they are having a seizure and other kids do it for less time. I think in most cases they do look blue to some extent. In other words, your doctor was probably thinkng that your child's blue episode was unrelated to the diarrheal illness and more related to the fact that he was upset about having his diaper changed. If there is no way that this was the cause of your childs blue episode you should discuss this with your doctor since i would think they would want to know why your child was turning blue.

If i remember correctly your son was negtative for fecal fat right so technically he should not be malabsorbing (at least fat). Since you still notice very frequent runny stools have they done any other testing to see if your son could have giardia or some other cause of his diarhea? Have they done fecal elastase test... i think that might indicate whether or not there is any pancreatic dysfunction (ie carbohydrate, protein) since fat absorbtion appears to be normal.

I'm really sorry your son is going through this. I agree the docs should probably have a look at least to make sure he is doing ok with all the diarhea and vomiting and not getting dehydrated. I hope your son is better soon. Please let us know how he is doing.

oh sorry i just saw your post where you took your son to the doc and they determined breath holding spells as a cause of your baby's blueness. They are so scary!!! I completely understand how terrified you must feel.
