What is pain?

I know that alot of people are in tremendous amounts of pain for several different things. But after explaining the discomfort I feel on a regualr daily basis to several different docs over several years I wonder if it isnt in fact pain. Now, get me wrong. I have experienced some very painful things, childbirth, surgery which obviously needed meds to help relieve it. But for several years I have experienced chest pain, back pain, joint and muscle pain. And when asking different docs about it they prescribe me things like Ibuprofen(which I love) and tell me not over do any strenuous activity. Generally I do not consider this pain, I consider it more of a limiting aggrivation. Over time this limiting aggrivation starts to take a toll on a body. So I guess my question is even though I dont think I need a Morphine drip for some of my aches and pains but am I just being a baby about not wanting to feel like crap every minute of every day. Is it acceptable for me to ask for a little relief every once and a while? Or is there really any relief at all?

You're not being a baby at all. CF can be very painful. My doc gives me Norco
10/325, I take 4-5 pills a day and I don't have any pain most of the time.
You just have to be careful to not get hooked on it, I have my family help me
so I don't take to much.

I'm 41. I've had nagging lower back pain since my early 20's. Until now I"ve just "dealt with it" But, I'm getting tired of it. It's wearing me down more now that I'm older and more SOB. Also, when I'm sicker (with CF), the pain is worse due to inflammation.
I was just in the hospital and they were giving me Ultram for the pain and it seemed to work well. I'm going to follow up with it to see if it's something I can continue on, on a daily basis (one doc said I could) . I also have arthristis in my hands and knees. I take Mobic (anti-inflammatory) which works better for me than the higher doses of Ibuprofen did.
I'm with you though, I don't need vicoden etc for the pain, just something to alliviate the nagging shtuff !
Good luck!

Even if there is no "obvious" causes for pain. Its a sign that something is a miss & it will take its toll on someones over all health.

Even the simples things that dont seem like much initially will become a lot over time.

I use to take pride in not "folding" to the various pain throught out my life. Even now I still am hesitant to request anything more then Tylenol.

But at the same time the pain is wearing me down.....physically & emotionally!

I do know that exercise & diet can have a huge influence on things so if you havent addressed those areas as well, its a thought so you dont have to rely on pain meds.

HUGS & Good Luck!
