I am so frusterated.

Last week I went on IVs yet again...for the second time in 2010 already <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> They put me on Zyvox (up until this point I have been using Bactrim and Keflex). It just does not seem to be working, but then again it does. My mucus is clear now, but I am still making a ton of it. I went into the doc. today and my FEV1 had dropped to 52% and my Oxgen was at 90%. Last week, in the hospital, I was 67% and around 96% for O2. My chest has been progressively getting tighter although my mucus is clearer. My baseline is typically around the mid 80's for FEV1.

Has this ever happend to any of you?
They put me on Prednisone to help with the "Asthma" component...I hope it helps!

A 53% FEV1 is scary for me...the lowest I have ever blown.

Yes it happens to many of us while on IVs..and it won't always happen. Maybe it's because the abx beat the c_rap out of us...leave us a bit wilted. Fight back. Exercise. Eat well. In a couple weeks I'm sure you'll be leaving that 67% in the dust and that 53...well that will be ancient history.

Are you taking an anti PA (Cipro, Merrem, Ceftaz, Zosyn) while taking the Zyvox? I believe, as does my doctor, that it's good to always treat both the PA and the MRSA.

When did you first culture MRSA btw?

Chin up. Stay positive :)

I haven't cultered MRSA in about 3 years. The problem is...I have been culturing Staph and have been treating it with Bactrim and Keflex for about 6 months now. I have had over 8 (two week) courses since September and can't seem to kick it. No fail, it comes back with a vengance about a week or so later. They think I may have the MRSA hiding in my lungs somewhere, that is why they are now trying Zyvox. I haven't cultured PA in over 6 years, but I still take the Zithromax 3 times a week. I hope that is enough. My doc. does not want me to start back on Tobi...I was thinking I should.

Edit* I should add in that only one of those courses were IV's...all the rest were oral.
