Hello, again,
Sam's doctor recommended a bronchoscope after he cultured psuedomonas. I was very saddened to learn that his lungs are already blocking up with mucus. The doctor wants to wait for the results of the bronchoscope before admitting him for an IV of antibiotics (4 days in the hospital and 10 at home). He had a high count of PA in his mouth culture, but the doctor said that 40% of the time, that what is in the mouth is not indicative of what is in the lungs. So, we are doing Tobi and waiting. I went ahead and started CPT four times a day instead of two. Does Tobi kill pseudomonas or does it just keep it from growing? I believe I will call on Monday and say, Look, you found mucus in his lungs, you're pretty much definite PA will be cultured in the lung sample, let's just admit him right away if that is the course of action we're going with. What kills pseudomonas?
Thanks,
