What kills pseudomonas?

In our case, TOBI has knocked out psuedomonas, at least so far.

Emily first cultured it at 6 weeks old - her very first clinic visit after leaving the NICU. We did Tobi, 28 0n/28 off until she was 9 months old. By that time she had had 3 consecutive "clean" cultures. Psuedo has not shown up in her throat, sputum or sinus cultures since.

We are waiting on the final results of her bronch, but preliminary results didn't show psuedo, either.

I know that TOBI doesn't always work, and I know very well that she may culture it again at anytime. I do remember being told though, that TOBI can erradicate it if used aggressively.

As far as the extra CPT, my understanding is that you are moving mucus so that things are less likely to take root.

Good luck. I hope things improve soon!

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>So, we are doing Tobi and waiting. I went ahead and started CPT four times a day instead of two....

Does increasing CPT knock pseudomonas out or just knock out the mucus so it has no place to take root?</end quote></div>

CPT won't kill germs of any kind, viral or bacterial- but increasing at first signs of ANY congestion or illness is important. Increased cpt will help keep little bugs from becoming major exacerbations by helping to keep lungs as clear as possible, as well as to help get them well when they are sick with these big nasty infections.

I noticed you started the increased cpt- good <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> , especially since it seems his drs haven't talked to you about doing this. If Sam's doctors have never discussed him having a 'sick plan'- exactly what to do when he gets sick vs. his typical care when he is well- please make sure that they do by the time he's discharged from his upcoming hospital stay. It's very important to know, since starting the extra treatments right away along with whatever nebs you use (i.e. albuteral) often make such a big difference.

I hope the TOBI and whatever else he gets by IV are successful. <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">
