What kind of job do you have?

Hi.
I was just wondering what kinds of jobs other CF'ers have. I was thinking about it after reading the topic of "calling in sick."
So let's share what kinds of jobs we do, if we work from home, etc.
To start: I work in a Rape Crisis office, where I'm an advocate for women who have been sexually assaulted. We work on empowerment as well as legal issues, and most of all coping. I get called out to the hosp. at all hours of the night to be with the survivor.
This always stops the conversation ASAP because people don't know what to say. But there is a need for it, so I do it.

So, what interesting jobs do you all have?

I have been a stay at home Mom & Domestic Goddess for the last 5 years. Previous to that I had worked at our local hospital in the admissions & billing departments. In addition to assuring accurate info about the patients, I verified insurance & contacted companies for approval & started paperwork for those without insurance for them to get assistance. I was there for 12 years. Previous to that I was the Senior Dispatcher at an Answering Service which was assisting our new 911 Center with the transfer of responses to calls for local fire, ambulance & police calls. I was there for 1 1/2 years. I would have stayed, but when I finally became eligible for insurance (which took a year of employment), I was told for my CF to be covered I would have another year waiting period. I knew I couldnt risk it so I left. My job before that which was my first job ever & my first job out of high school was Assistant Legal Secretary at a local law firm. The criminal attorney is who I worked for & it was very interesting because of our large range of clientel. Everything from DWI to Ohio Mafia. I thank my High School Principal/Science teacher for giving me a good recommendation on that. The girl who hired me for the law firm was my Principal's neighbor. I left there because the Senior lawyer (who was 79) & I clashed big time. I was still young & didnt like to be bellowed to & expect to be a servant like his secretary of many years was. He & I had a meeting one day after a blow up & he kept saying " I dont want anyone to lose their job, I dont want anyone to have to lose their job." Obviously it wasnt him who would lose his job since he owned the firm, building etc. So I quit. The joys of being young with no responsibilities. I was there for 1 1/2 years. Thats my employment stories!

I start on Monday as a teller at Money Tree (payday loans, check cashing, etc). I'm excited because its not retail!!! Plus they pay for medical, dental, and vision. So if you are able to be on your feet all day and work full time check into it if you live in a state where they have locations. Just go to www.moneytree.com and check it out.

I'm working toward a degree in Music Education, and I aspire to make a career out of teaching music. I'm just not quite there yet. I'm on track with my sophomore year in college though.

I do pharmaceutical sales - I sell allergy meds and antiobiotics for sinusitis/bronchitis. I've been doing it for about 2 years now - it has its good and bad. I'm supposed to work 8-5 every day, but if have a doc apt at 8 and don't get into territory until 10, it's not a big deal. Benefits are good as well, particularly insurance.

I'm really wondering how everyone's else's health has fared since they started to work. Anyone noticed a change with stress? Maybe mental health is better cuz you're working so physical health is better?

I work at a newspaper, I burn negatives onto the plates with a very bright light on a machine and then run it through another machine to wash the extra stuff off, and then I give the plate to the pressmen and they put it on to print the paper. I also print pages and type legals. It is a pretty fun job.

Hi there, I'm Kat from New Zealand, 37 yrs old, and i work as a Software Manager for a global IT organisation. It is immensely stressful which at times can wear me down, then I can't sleep and I think it is these times it has a negative effect on my health. However it also supplies me with mental stimulation, a regular and thorough distraction from my health issues (which tend to be fairly constantly on my mind when I'm just sitting around home) and great interaction with the people I work with. We have a huge amount of laughs, practical jokes, social occasions and they lighten my life..................so I think if you are possibly able to, healthwise, some regular work is in general a great idea. A job such as mine where i can be flexible and work my 37.5 hours a week, however and whenever I like, and I can work from home whenever I want/need to is absolutely ideal. The good money helps tremendously with medical costs too, even though here in NZ the majority of healthcare is free or quite cheap.

Hello, i do not have c/f, but my bro does. I work for the city removing grafitti from 4a.m till noon. The hours are great , but the only dilema is my partner that i work with speaks no english so there is a severe lack of communication so it can get a bit frusterating at times so we just laugh at each other and draw pictures to one another. you just have to make the best out of everything..................................................

I musta missed this thread...I should probably post my resume...It's self explanatory, and may help me in finding a new job!!
I'm the only foreigner working in a Japanese company in Japan.
I used to enjoy my job until two years (almost three) ago when they did a corporate restructure and I was supposed to be in a "promotional" position. (NOT!)
I graduated as an Electronics Engineer Technician, and went through a few semesters several years later for Japanese Language Study, only to be married before graduating for a degree in Japanese.
The marriage is what brought me here, though I wanted to come to Japan to bring my language skills back to the States someday.
I've worked like a Japanese Salary man for the first 10 years, and my health caught up to me.
I've also developed a lot of skills, none of which are being used (but are exploited) by the company I'm in now...So I'm looking for a new career!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
Of course, because I resent them wanting me to be working as a Japanese in this company, I'm looking for a company that wants me to work in their company as a foreigner (Who speaks really good Japanese!) who would be valuable to their company.
This is a good topic because I'd like to see what different fields others with CF is in.
I wanted to work as an auto mechanic, I love cars, but my dad suggested Electronics due to a cleaner environment than inhaling engine exhaust fumes! (He was right!)
I did work for Ford Motor, before coming to Japan (sometimes wish I didn't quit!), but found computers as an interest.
I may go into IT, but I could go with translating as well. I found there is a possibility for the need to translate Japanese home pages into English and publish.
Translating is one of my specialties! (Getting into "Why Japanese" would need a different topic)

I am a bilingual education teacher - which is misleading because I don't actually teach bilingually, I just teach students who don't speak English how to speak English in the context of 6th grade curriculum.
