What kind of school do/did you go to?

Hi there! I am currently a junior at a private high school, and while my CF is relatively mild and my health generally good, my school life is still very much affected. Last year (my sophomore year) was considerably difficult for me in general, as I ended up about missing five weeks (not consecutively - 2 weeks in December and 3 in January/February). It was hard, of course, to keep up with schoolwork while in the hospital, but my school, my teachers, and my classmates were wonderfully understanding, encouraging me to focus on my health and giving me the extra help I needed to get caught up on all my schoolwork once I returned. I've gone to private school for all of my life and haven't had any experience with the public school system, but I would definitely recommend private school, as I feel that the smaller, more personal environment has been especially accommodating.

So glad I noticed this post, since it's been taking up so much of my brain space recently!
Anna's starting at a Montessori pre-school (kindergarten) next year - she'll be 3 and a half when she starts. Classes are fairly small, and from what we see, the school looks very clean...!
Following on from pre-school, she'll be going to a private school that runs from Grade R (age 6) to Matric (age 18), with small classes (less than 20 per class). Though teaching the standard curriculum and offering all the same sports facilities etc. + more (marimba lessons, here we come!), they have experience (and a very good reputation) dealing with kids who have 'special needs' (they have a class for children with mental disabilities), and they're therefore more accepting and able to deal with kids with special requirements.
It's so hard to choose, and sometimes I wish I could just keep her at home, away from sick kids (there are so many of them!!), but this has to happen...! She'll love it. Hope your little one does too...

I went to a private school until 8th grade. I was sick on and off but I never thought it was that bad. When I went to high school I would be sick more often. However, all of my teachers where very helpful as long as I was straight forward with them from the start of the school year. I enjoyed being with other kids instead of home schooling. It made me feel like I was "normal". Also my mother and I took precautions. I always brought my lunch and my own water bottles to limit my interaction with very germs. Unfortunately germs are everywhere but I think as long as precautions are made either choice will be fine. Good luck
