You need a genetic blood test for CF. If possible go through your brothers CF doctors office. The test needs to be done by an accredited CF center to limit error. If you go outside of his doctors office, make sure you tell them that your brother has CF & you want to find out if you are a carrier. Whereever you go be sure they verify & tell you what mutation of the gene you are carrying. I am assuming it should be the same as your brothers. For some reason I ??? myself on that, but it should be right!

Do you/your brother know what mutation(s) he carries. If you have the same bio. parents, that should make it simple to diagnose you as a carrier or not.

HE HAS NO CLUE, AND YES WE DO HAVE THE SAME BIOLOGICAL PARENTS.FATHER HAS PASSED, AND NOT IN TOUCH WITH MOM. IS IT A BLOOD TEST THAT DETERMINES WHETHER I AM A CARRIER OR NOT???

Yes it is a blood test, usually just a vial-maybe 2 depending on the laboratory. You could probably have a family doctor order it. A CF clinic is a good idea but it also depends on how your brother was diagnosed and if he had ever had a blood test, but you said you were unaware of his mutations. I woudl actually recommend that both you and he get tested. It is good to know your mutations, it will certainly apply to him if he ever wants to have children.

What is the probability of all siblings of a CFer being carriers (providing they have the same biological parents)? I guess I assumed that all of my brothers & sisters are carriers.

It is a 1 in 4 chance that siblings will have CF, 1 in 4 chance that they won't be carriers and 1 in 2 that they will be carriers.
