What point to worry?

I was always aware cf'ers needed more salt however until i started at my current clinic i wasnt aware just HOW
<br />much. The australian guidelines for adults are between 4000-6000 mg daily, higher with excessive heat or excersion. Though im not sure what this translates to for children, it may be higher than you are thinking? A gatorade only has between 200-300mg (depending on type) here, though there is a new one with 600mg. As im sure im repeating, without adequate salt cfers will not absorb fluid so they can drink as much as they like but without salt wont hydrate. Apologies if you know all this already but it is something i didnt fully acknowledge until it was pointed out recently so im sure others are in the same boat! For me low sodium equates to body aches. Cramps and thick sticky gunk which eventually gives me a chest infection. Good luck!!!

I second the salt tablets. I've always exercised heavily, and without them, my electrolytes would get completely unbalanced and i would pass out. I also have a fetish (my husbands words, not mine!) for pretzels, soy sauce, and salted tuna fish. Keep in mind, along with the salt, proper hydration is particularly important for people with CF. Otherwise the mucous gets even thicker and harder to cough up. Personally, I wouldnt take your kid out of camp, you dont want him to get the msg that he cant do something. Just make sure he is adequately prepped, even if that means have the person in charge remind him to drink, take salt pills, electrolytes, etc. Since it is a medical issue, they should be more than happy to do that : ) And kirstynoffs, I get horrid muscle cramps too when I dont have enough salt, or especially potassium. (bananas and oranges!)
