What to do on Prednisone

I've been put on prednisone for an extended period (I'm trying to keep from saying "forever") and even on a fairly low dose -10 mg per day, I'm still getting awful hot flashes, mood swings, cravings, I mean, just everything. What do you do/ how do you deal when you're on prednisone? I have actually been exercising. Because I'm petrified at weight gain and I'm just trying to stave it off. (I'm graduating in a month.... yeah. I reallllyyyyy don't want to have a "prednisone" graduation picture) It's worked for THAT symptom (praise god) so far but what about everything else? The hot flashes are like pretty extreme... like my mom is going through menopause and I am definately beating her out on those- about one or two a day. Try explaining to a teacher why you're 18 years old and HAVING HOT FLASHES!
I think the mood swings are awful too- like, I say (seriously) I wouldn't want to be around me on prednisone. I'm only here with me cause I'm stuck.
Help? Anything is appreciated.

Let's just start off with I feel for you. I hate, hate, hate being on Prednisone. I also get hot flashes; it also gives me horrible stomachaches but I'm still super hungry (it's really awesome...). And, worst yet, I turn into a huge b**** when I'm on it, not going to lie. I try to deal with it as best I can, but last time I was on it I was on a debate trip, and definitely wasn't at my peak level in terms of being a good person. It causes me to go from manic to depressed likethis.
I've found that just spending time by yourself listening to music can tone down the moodswings. Also, reminding yourself "Hey, don't say/do/act like that, you don't really mean that, you're on Prednisone" can help, momentarily, if you're about to do something stupid. Other than that, I just had to tough it out. So did my family. And my friends. I felt bad, and I remembered to apologize for anything I had done/said after I was out of that particular swing.
Just remember that what you're feeling like isn't really a true representation of how you'd usually feel or react to a situation.
Good luck.

I've been on maintenance Prednisone for a year and a half now, 10mg-5mg (whatever taper I can handle)!! I don't have any hot flashes, but I do have mood swings. I really just try to stay aware of how I'm behaving, but of course that doesn't always work. So sometimes you just have to say "Hey, I'm gonna have mood swings so just keep me in check!". The Prednisone-face is the main reason I started exercising last year. I have managed to keep my weight the exact same, no increase, so I feel like that's a success!

I don't have any advice. All I can say is good luck with everything and when it comes to the mood swings, just know when you need to spend some time alone so you won't alienate everyone around you! LOL

Yeah, I think the hardest part is having to explain to people these mood swings aren't who you really are... really! I don't think I've bitten anyone's head off in actual life...
Forums, can't exactly say the same.. hahaha. Whoops. *smacks Prednisone*
