What to do?

Ok, so my 3 yr old has her very first illness with a fever since being diagnosed this summer. She said her whole body aches and she is sleeping all the time. My question is....do I still do her CPT? I can't imagne beating on her when she feels this rotten. What does everyone else normally do? We have never missed her therapy before and I don't want to start now but I also don't want to make her feel worse. What's a mom to do?

Also, do I need to call her CF team? She doesn't have a cough but she's had a fever for almost two days. I'm pretty sure it's just a bug going around but I don't want to assume. Thanks!

I have a 5 month old with what sounds to me what your child has. Yes, I would call your CF team. They will let you know if they want to see your child or not. Mine did and put her on an antibiotic. YES, you need to still do her treatment. My pulm drs told me to increase hers from 2 breathing treatments a day to up to four, how ever many I have time for to keep her lungs as clear as possible!

I am new to this to but thought I would share what I was told!

Take care... <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

You may want to shorten her PT time but do it more often so she doesn't quite feel like a tenderized piece of meat. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> That's what my mom did when I had chicken pox when I was little because I couldn't handle being upside down for so long.

Allie may be too young, but I find the Flutter much more pleasant when I have a cold or virus. When I'm sick, I sometimes find manual PT downright painful, so those times I use solely the Flutter

Coll,

This is a ridiculous question, but what is the flutter? I have heard of this so many times, but I think those of us with young children either don't know what it is or haven't used this technique yet. Thanks!

Carey, here is a link to a picture of the flutter.
<a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.cff.org/SiteSearch/dsp_SearchResults.cfm
">http://www.cff.org/SiteSearch/dsp_SearchResults.cfm
</a>
once you get there look a bit down the page and click on:
1. Airway Clearance Techniques

The "airway clearance Techniques" opens a link that is a PDF file, on the second page (there are only two). I tried to link it directly but the PDF file wouldn't.

Ok, that didn't work so well. go to www.cff.org (or you can use the link I just posted) and type Flutter in the search engine. From there you click on the same stuff I posted below and you should be able to see a photo of the flutter.

Allie's Cf team has never mentioned the flutter but I will definitely ask them about it.

Thanks!

BTW, Allie is feeling much better. It was just a virus. There are so many going around right now.

Julie, Thanks for taking the reins, because I sat down earlier and began to type up a response to Carey, but all my descriptions were poor and didn't really explain what the Flutter does

Carey, Glad you got your answer one way or the other

Amy, Glad Allie's feeling better. Like I said, she might still be a little young for the Flutter, but it is worth asking about. There is also the Acapella, which might be better for her since it doesn't involve tilting the mouthpiece like the Flutter does.
