What to do...

Jessi,

So you have not had one period since you went off the pill? I think that is your answer. You could be experiencing secondary Amenorrhea. It may honestly take 3-6 months for your body to resume menstruation.

If you don't get the answers you want from your OB and they run out of ideas for you, just shop around. Find a second opinion. I still recommend getting bloodwork done. I don't know exactly what to ask for except the OB probably knows what levels of which hormones you should have in your bloodstream at any given point in your cycle. If your hormones are out of whack there could be an underlying reason for it. I know thyroids have a lot to do with different hormones, so does the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. There are just a bazillion possibilites. Keep after that OB. And keep us posted.

One last thought. Are you on any antidepressants? A lot of CFers are and that can sometimes affect your cycle too. There are just so many possibilites, I hate to sit here and guess. And I hate for you to wait the full six months only to see your period not return after getting off the pill and then start all this testing.

Hang in there!

This is just frustrating! Ahg! Now that we've decided the time is right I just wanna be pregnant yesterday!

I am not currently on antidepressants. I was until we decided we would try to get pregnant in the near future. I started weaning myself off of them in March, stopped taking them completely by April and was off BC half way through April, and I have not gotten a period or even spotting, or anything!

Hi Jessi,

I was your age when my biological clock went off and I know exactly how you feel. Once I decided I wanted to have a baby, there was nothing I could do to get it out of my mind. It's painful, it's exhausting, it consumed me. I've been there and I understand the ache you feel. Hang in there, ok?

Where are you at with your OB right now? I would suggest a call first thing tomorrow morning. Ask her for a full blood work up (whatever that means!) because you want to check your hormone levels to find out what's missing, what's in excess, how to treat it etc. In some cases I know there is medication you can take to jump start a period. (I dont' know the name and I don't know if your case falls under that category) Good luck.

So far we've only seen the OB for prenatal counciling. She was talking to me about my period being late an even mentioned that some people want drugs to jump start their period but she said more often than not, that just throws things off even worse. I work pretty much all day tomorrow and can't recieve calls at work, but I am off early on Tuesday so I will call the OB then.
