What to eat ...

Hi, I'm a college freshman and since I came back to campus from winter break, my appetite has been zilch. My schedule this semester is also rather crazy, so I can only fit in about one meal in the dining hall a day and the others I eat in my room or on the run. I'm just wondering what people eat when they really don't feel like eating? The food in the dining hall is looking pretty disgusting by this point in the year (especially after just being home and eating homemade food ) Anyway just wondering what others do. Thanks!

Jamie

p.s. hope everyone on the east coast is enjoying the snow!

You are going to lose a lot of weight going to college. =-) I went through the same thing, and even though I tried to eat as much as I could, not having regular meals really took it's toll. Anyway, I ate lots and lots of pasta, and when i had time to cook them, potatoes. Also, corned beef hash is cheap and, even though it smells like catfood, has a lot of calories, and doesn't taste so bad with a lot of ketchup. =-) Anyway, i was on a pretty tight budget, so those were my options. I'd try to drink a lot of whole milk whenever I could afford it, too. When I really, really didn't feel like eating and I had it, I just chugged down a whole bunch of milk. Otherwise, I just had to force the food down my throat. =-) Good luck. =-)

I have times when i dont feel like eating but i force it down anyway if you are not getting enough food then you need to try to find high calories things like ice cream, peanut butter, beanie weenies, shakes, carnations instant breakfast, fruit is good when you are not that hungry honey buns, grits, cambells potato soup with crackers. these are things i like to eat that help me so i thought i would share with you so maybe they might help.
Hope it helps and hope you feel better.

When I don't want to eat anything, I usually will have a scandi shake. I chug it fast so I don't have time to realize I don't want it. I would eat like 3 of those a day, that will help keep your weight at least maintained.

Eat anything you can. I gained 10 pounds when I first went to college from sitting and eating just anything. I haven't gained any more since my first year, but I've maintained it. I'm also on the lazy, sit-around-and-eat-when-I-think-I'm-hungry (but really I'm just bored lol) side. I've never eaten anything when I didn't want to, and I think I do just fine with it. I'm not fat though, and my dr. would like me to weigh like 10 more pounds than I already do, which I just find impossible. But I'd just try eating fatter, high calorie foods. And scandi shakes can always do the trick. Good Luck!

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm still not really hungry, though I'm trying to eat more when I am. I was on a peanut butter kick for a while, though I can't really digest it well even with my enzymes, oh well

I know CFers tend to be prone to osteoporosis and arthritis and osteoarthritis and all that (as well as the diabetes), so it's probably common. I have some trouble in some places, but nothing severe.

Hi Jamie

Yep I too get really awful bone/joint pain. Its usually worst first thing in the morning and once I start moving around it eases up. At the moment its my right knee thats killing me; its weird coz tomorrow it could be my left wrist!! The pain just seems to move around my body as and when it feels like it. I've asked my docs about it and apparently they don't know the exact reason why it happens but it usually indicates an infection so treatment such as IV's will not only help your chest but also get rid of the joint pains.
If you don't quite need IV's yet Ibuprofen is brillliant for the joint pain - it brings down the inflammation and keeps pain at bay. I take 400mg 3 times a day and it really helps.

Good luck,

I had an oesteoperosis test done a few weeks back. Even though I don't get bone pain, it showed my hip was only 75% of what it should be. I'm mow on calcium supplements. I do get very stiff knees if I sit or crouch for a while.
