What would you do differently?

What would you do differently if your child did not have CF?

Would your parenting style change? Would you clean less?

There must be something...

My parenting style would'nt really change. One of the things I would'nt be doing is turning around in public when a child/adult is coughing and see how close they are to her. I would allow her to touch handrails and not give it a second thought. I would still clean alot. Little OCD about that Having Purell in everyroom and in her school locker would'nt be a major. (it does help to keep everyone in good health...bonus) I would'nt like everybody else be so well versed in the medical field. Iam sure there is more. Her CF has become a life style for my family.

I would spend less time wondering IF they will be around long enough to...

graduate from college
have a successful career
find love
be a parent
enjoy old age

You know...the normal stuff.

My parenting style would defintely not change, and I would actually clean MORE because I would have more time to do so. I reflected on this question before I answered, and decided the best way to respond is to list what I would NOT do at all, if my daughter didn't have CF.

In the past 24 hours I would NOT have:
administered 7 breathing treaments (its a TOBI month!)
patiently waited out the temper tantrum before last night's breathing treatments
administered 2 vest sessions
boiled 7 nebs
looked for her "enzyme purse" at school this morning to refill it
picked up two prescriptions from a very out of the way pharmacy that can compound Urso and also will carry brand name enzymes
explained to my mom why I'm not considering growth hormones for Katy at this time
wondered whether I should give her one or two enzymes before she ate a small ice cream cone (will she really eat ALL of it?)
exchanged e-mails and phone calls regarding something I'm organizing for our Great Strides walk
administered other meds, etc.

I have no idea what I used to do with this extra time I apparently had before CF. Kinda like once you have kids, and you wonder what on earth you did with all of that free time!
