As much as I'd love to have ya...don't pick Kansas.
Our state sales tax is 5.3% and then add on county & local sales tax & we end up paying 7.3% total. Nothing is exempt from sales tax except prescriptions.
Oh, also in July our car tags/personal property taxes are due and it's going to be $136 for our car and $175 for our truck and this is for vehicles that are 7 years old!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">
And while I'm on a roll, we also have a state income tax of 6.45% in addition to the federal withholding.</end quote></div>
On the contrary, sweet Harlett, my car tags and bi-annual car maintenance check was about $850 just last May, along with a hearty automotive tax of $350 paid annually (in the same month, and this is only for one car!).
0.3% up from what we're doing now would be "pocket change" if they bump the consumption tax above 6%! BTW, now that my annual income has gone back up, my lovely city tax just increased ten-fold! (I went from paying $20 monthly to $170-for two people!) (I hadn't calculated the average income tax rate here, but it's a matter of using my Excel spreadsheet!)
As what Mel said, I also hadn't seen anything from the amount of taxes they already take over here, except for them buying massage chairs, going on company trips to Hokkaido and go on golfing spree every week at $200 a pop! (that's probably $10 buck a hole, plus an extra $20 for the "19th Hole" <img src="i/expressions/beer.gif" border="0">
We are taxed on groceries and clothing as well over here, which really sucks cause groceries are a necessity and we (I) didn't have to pay taxes on that in Mich. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">8)
