When did you doc place G-tube?

I have two daughters, who are both PI, and neither one have G-tubes. My oldest daughter is in the 40th percentile and my younger daughter is in the 30th percentile. My nephew does have a G-tube and got it when he was no longer on the charts. But, not only does he have CF, he is also highly allergic to milk, so weight gain is more complicated in him. He was about 9 or 10 with he got the the G-tube and he is 17 now. He is still not even on the charts<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

When did you doc place G-tube?

We are getting a G-tube placed this Wednesday. Avery is 8 months old and has never had steady weight gain. One visit she would gain a lot the next, nothing. We have been battling that for months now. When she dropped to the 5th percentile they recommended an NG tube first. We have had it for a month now. They wanted us to get started on a feeding tube so she didn't go any further down in percentile. Our dr said the further she drops the harder it will be for her to catch up. We love the NG tube for helping her become the chubette we knew she could be. We are very much ready for the G-tube so it is easier to care for.

Good luck with everything! PM me if you have any other questions!

If you do get recommended for one, try to keep an open mind. It has been wonderful to know our daughter is getting all of the food she needs and it is great to see the rolls just keep piling on her legs!!

Samantha has had her g-tube since she was about 2, even with the tube she has problems with weight gain, but the tube keeps her stable and helps prevent her from losing a lot of weight. The two tubes I am most familiar with are the MicKey and the Minione, both of those are replaced every 6 months.

My son is only 4-1/2 months old, and has been in the bottom 5th%ile for weight since I was pregnant with him it seems!! He is only 12lbs 4oz, but because he's had a steady weight gain, even though still in the bottom 5th %ile for age, they've said his height/weight ratio is in the 50th %ile, so I guess they won't give a g-tube unless he stops gaining. I was worried a couple weeks ago cuz he wasnt eating very much... but he seems to be doing fine now with eating. I hope he keeps gaining, but if we need the tube at any point, I guess we'll hafta take it. Its not necessarily a bad thing.
