When on Tobramcyin through IV....

It seems like CF docs vary on their philosophy with this. When I was a kid, I always did Tobra every 8 hrs (like with my other IV med). Then, about 5 years or so ago, my doc started having me do every 12 hours...at the time, I think it was because my kidneys were having trouble clearing the med every 8 hours (i.e. high Tobra trough). Now, and for the last couple of years, I have been doing it every 24 hours (which is really nice!)

I am not 100% sure what my dose has been in the past - I think 500 mg. I am 5'4 and 130 lbs.

Add me to the list. I am on it right now too (last week wooohooo!). I am 5'3", 110 (at the start of the meds, I was 107). I am on 120mg every 12 hrs. I think they do look at ur height and weight to figure out ur first dose, but go on blood levels after that to make sure you are on a theraputic amount.

I complained about it making my ears ring and I have never had to use it again<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> For some reason, my docs really listened to me on that one and they make a supreme effort to never use it when I am on IV's. I have not had problems using other meds<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I was very strict about monitoring my hearing....even on just inhaled Tobi and they really paid attention to what I was telling them. That doesn't always happen. The db loss for more even on inhaled Tobi was becoming noticeable to me and the punch tobi and tobra gave me was not worth my hearing. BTW....my last audiogram was normal.

I am 5'5" usually 135 but I'm 140 right now (ugh, muffin top hanging over my pants).
I am on IV's right now, Tobra 640 mg's. My levels are always high so it went from 36 hours to every 48 hours!!
