Ok so every time I talk to someone or a doctor they all have different answers about when they think a cure will be found! When my Nathen was dignoised,the doc said possibuly 10 yrs from now there will more then likely be a cure, since then I have herd 20 and then on a special news cast a while back I herd they thought they found one, but when they used a humen study he died with in 72 hours, by bad reaction! Then they said there would be a huge set back because of this! I am so tired and frustrated of being tired and frustrated ! Make any since? I dream and pray that a cure can be found for cf...my first child was born 27 years ago and we thought a cure might not be too far away then!! We are extremely fortunate to still have our two oldest children with us, alive a well, living basically 'normal' lives...Thank you God!!
My hope now is in up comming promising treatments which will continue to extend and improve pwcf's lives. When my first child was born they gave a life expectancy to teenage years...that has continued to grow over the years, so things are improving every day.
The UK have very promising gene therapy in the works, and the results from the PC124 (whatever it is!!) actually appears to corrects the defect in people with nonsense mutations...perhaps this will be built on...it's very exciting!!
Drugs such as denfusol and the AIR one are really promising developments also which will improve the managment of PA so the kids get a better chance at life.
I guess what I am saying is that things have improved immensely for pwcf and it can only get better. We need to try our best to keep our kids a well as we can, I suppose that over the years I have stopped expecting a 'cure', but you never know what is just around the corner!! Hope and faith.
