Where were you...

I was living at the hospital pre-TX, waiting. I was there for about 4 weeks, with 3 false alarms.

Eventually, they tried to send me home. On the day of my discharge, while waiting for the valet parking to bring my car around, I got the call.

My first thought was, "Not again."

Bad attitude....and my wife quickly reminded me of my situation.

I had imagined getting the call in every possible circumstance....while sleeping, showering, driving around, sitting on the couch.....etc. Never, never, did I imagine how it went down. I'm sure this echoes many stories.

i was asleep in bed. my husband answered the phone and i told him that i didn't want to talk. he handed me the phone anyway. i rolled my eyes at him. then i realized the doctor was on the other line. i was kinda panicky and crying. it was crazy. adrenaline and i was freaked out and scared.

i never had a dry run so that was my one and only call!

I was in the hospital.

I had been at home for 1.5 months (after a 63 day stay at the Cleveland Clinic) and then started coughing up a lot of blood on January 22, 2007. I had two surgeries at my CF hospital here in NY to stop the bleeding, and then was transferred to Cleveland Clinic (my transplant hospital)on January 27 and then was told on January 30 that they had the lungs and liver for me. I came out of surgery on January 31, 2007!

The first call (dry-run) was at 1:30am. My first reaction was to yell at the person for calling so late at night, until I realized that it was the tx-center, haha! Then I took a shower and cried. I wasn't ready.

A week later, I got the real call at 11:30am. I was still in my bed that morning and my mom had brought be the phone. It was weird... I had then zen like calm that came over me. It was like I knew the call was coming and that it was all going to be OK. But I drive with my family to the center and remained that calm and was cracking jokes the whole day... best day of my life

I got my real call at about 430 in the morning. I immediately was wide awake and jittery. I didn't get nervous until about 1130 am, when they said I was definetly getting the lungs and needed to get ready by showering with this chloroprep stuff and get wheeled to the holding area. That's when my heartrate went crazy, but I was ready!
