Emily's staph is sensitive to Augmentin but we can't use it (very adverse reaction to it), so she usually has Bactrim. She needed something else after a course of Bactrim didn't kick things with one flareup this past spring (Keflex I think- it was one of the cephalosporins) but we are fortunate; Bactrim usually works.
Our clinic is similar to LouLou's: they want a healthy baseline, so do not want us letting sickness going on for a long time without stepping in.
