we had blood work taken at work the other day for our wellness program. well on friday they called to give me the results. my white blood count was 13, they said it shouldn't be over 10. then my platelets were 468 and they said that shouldn't be over 415.

should i be really concerned? i have been coughing a little more than normal. i told her i had CF and she said oh thats probably why they are elevated. do you think since i culture PA they would be slightly high because of that?

i'm going to give my doctor a call when i get the actual results in my hand.

I'm assuming that the number they gave you for WBCs was the total count, since WBC is made up of different specific types of cells.

It's actually sort of interesting that you have a high platelet count. Platelets are what the body used to form blood clots. Since most CFers are vitamin K deficient, we tend to have lower platelets. Definitely a good idea to get some feedback from your doctor on that one.

Most CFers are always fighting against some minor bug or another which could explain the WBCs. If you're coughing more than normal, you could be at the beginning of a slight infection, especially with elevated WBCs. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but do whatever you can to make sure you don't lose any ground health-wise. Prevention is key! Whenever I'm at the beginning of what feels like an infection, I start by upping the amount of water I drink, and taking Mucinex at night so that I can have a very productive cough in the morning.
