I had a cold that lasted for about three days and just went away about 2 days ago. Once the cold was gone, my voice was! It's not completely gone, just hoarse and a little deep. What's going on? I'm new to cf and I just got back from the hospital on antibiotics for three weeks on January 10th. When i had colds before I knew I had cf, it wasn't a big deal. But now I have to worry about it I guess. I'm not sick except for a little laryingitis. I continue my treatments, could it be a side effect of the pulmozyme or hypertonic? or maybe reflux? So, why??? Thanks guys!!!!
oh yeah, my throat was pretty sore for the 2-3 days i had a cold

Pulmozyme can have that effect as can probably any inhaled medicine. It is temporary and usually goes away quickly.
Acid reflux can also cause some laryngitis. Also if you were coughing hard while you were sick that may also cause loss of your voice.

I lost my voice recently too. I had a very mild cold that went away in a few days, but I was hoarse for about 2 weeks. Mostly it was because of the extremely dry winter weather. If you're the type of person whose skin gets rough during the winter, it's not uncommon to have your vocal chords dry out too. Try drinking soothing tea with honey, or sip hot salt water as you're able. Keep up with the fluids and you should be back to normal in no time.

Oh, random tidbit, the preservatives that are in gummy bears and gummy worms (mostly all gelatin candies) can cause a person to have a mild allergic reaction in the form of laryngitis.

Have you been coughing a lot? To have a normal sounding voice, you have to have vocal folds that are not irritated, red, swollen. When you get a cold, you vocal folds do get irritated and then you are also coughing more. When we cough, those folds slam together and then get even more red and irritated. So then when you go to talk, your folds aren't coming together to form a nice little seal for the air to pass through.

Drink some extra water.....try to avoid caffeine cuz it makes you more dehydrated........give your voice a bit of a rest. Your voice should be back soon Also, it might be tempting to whisper; but, whispering when your voice is already having trouble is actually much harder on your vocal cords than just trying to talk normal

If you are doing any kind of inhaled meds....especially antibiotics those can do a number on your voice too. So make sure you rinse your mouth real well after your treatments.

Feel better soon
