window insulation for winter

It's starting to get cold again! Our main floor heater is right below a large picture window, so I'm convinced that we lose most of our heat that way. I remember my parents insulating our windows every winter with the film that you tape on and then shrink with a hair dryer.

Is that stuff okay for CFers? I've suggested it to Jake before but he was worried that with all the condensation that collects inside, things will grow. Do you guys use it? Could I bleach the whole inside of the window after removing the plastic in the spring?

thanks!

I'm glad you asked this because I need to do this in my apartment too. Hopefully we will get an answer <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
