Why would someone think that having Cystic Fibrosis is a lucky???? and why would someone say that becuase I get Medacare for my CF that I am lucky.???? Having CF is awful anyone who thinks any of CF is lucky is very ill in the mind. Well this is what a friend said to my mom:

Yes, but Sarah is lucky! My mom asked her over and over what she ment by that. she said well I don't know..then she said Sarah is lucky to have Medcare. Then this women said I see allot of people who don't have Medcare at all and are not( US cenisions).

It took work to even get my Medcare I need the Medcare if I did't have it I would not have even been able to get my Vest system. If I did't have my vest system I would die. Or become very sick. This is just crap!!! I am so sick of wird people who just don't and won't understand CF!!

Have any of you guys had issues with people like this?

I know this may NOT be what you want to hear but maybe she just meant that you are lucky to have medicare so you CAN get the things you need. The fact that you have insurance though you are not working when many people aren't in a position to have that yet. They may have disability but not be eligible for medicare yet.

Just trying to look at it a different way.

I always get people that don't understand and quite honestly sometimes I wish they did but at the same time I am glad they don't cause I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy ... well maybe I would if you caught me on a REALLY bad day but in general no.

i've also been known to suggest that the odds must be in my favor considering the numbers game and cf.

that said, it's completely different to hear that kind of thing from an outsider. kind of like the glbt's and queer, or black people and that synonym for laziness.

i hereby contend that we take the word lucky. it will be ours, we will own it, and we shall only allow others like us to refer to us that way!!!

but seriously, i feel ya. it sucks, it's insensitive, and maybe a little out of context??

eh, people are dumb.
I have gotten harassed by cops & meter-maids about using a handicapped placard cuz I "don't look handicapped".
In school, one of the kids found out I had CF (even though they didn't know what it was) and then commented on everything I ate at lunch. "Do you
really think you should be eating that? I mean, with your condition?" and so they 'saved' me from myself by dumping the food on me.
yeah, people are great.
