Hi, I'm a 17 y/o female with CF and I just finished up with a months course of amikacin and cefepime, intervenously. Then when my period showed up, it was extremely light and only lasted a few days. Do any of you girls out there know if this is normal or have had this same problem. I'm wondering if the antibiotics can throw your system out of wack like that.If anybody has any info, please reply. Thanks

i belive iv med's can affect your period. it's not a natural thing to be putting cemicals in your body like that and it's gonna effect alot of things to do wiyh your body. i'm not saying you shouln't take any med's, you really need to be takeing evrything your doc tells you to. your period sounds normal for women with our condition. thats what i belive any way.

Yep, antibiotics whether they are IV or oral can play havoc with our menstrual cycles. Don't be surprised if a couple months down the line you have a really heavy period. If you are sexually active remember that antibiotics can cause your birth control pill to be ineffective, so use other forms of birth control!!! I hope this info helps.Caren 32 w/cf
