Wondering if CF related...

Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago Bek had an ear infection and was put on an antibiotic. When I took her back for her follow-up, her primary told me that he thinks she now has allergies (he saw some water in her ear and said they both looked plugged - but no wax build-up) so he put her on Singulair. The last several days she has also said that inside her nose feels funny.

Are these things related to CF? She has a follow-up with her CF doc this Friday, so I'll be asking then, but I just wanted some input before we go. She also has about a 75% increase in cough from her baseline, so I'm figuring she may have MRSA yet again. *sigh*

I just did some checking on the possible side effects for Singulair and it mentions that stuffy nose and nose bleeds are possible. I wonder if she is feeling some stuffiness or dryness and this is the 'funny feeling' that she is experiencing; different from any typical congestion she has... maybe some saline drops would help if this is what is going on.

I'm so sorry you are seeing such an increase in her cough. I hope her appt goes well on Friday and that you get answers on both what's going on w/ the allergies/Singulair- and that she doesn't have mrsa again.

I don't know if its related, but since all those parts are connected and have mucus in them, its certainly possible. i hope the CF team can give you answers and I really hope you aren't dealing with MRSA again.

Harriett,
Thank you for the info on Singulair. However, she doesn't sound like she's stuffy, and thankfully no nose bleeds. She would absolutely freak!! There was a close call with maybe having to go in for a tune up back in July, and she is coughing a lot more now than she was back then. She's already upset about not going to school until after her appointment; if she gets admitted tomorrow, it'll make it even worse if she finds out she won't be in school for 2 weeks or more. I'm really glad she likes school!

Heather,
I hope we get answers tomorrow as well. With the way she's been coughing though, and it's gotten worse these last couple of days, I just have a feeling. I certainly hope I'm wrong.

I'll let you all know.
