Hi Melissa, My step dad has an outdoor wood burning furnace. It's great and there's no smoke at all getting in the house. It's too bad they aren't allowed. Do they give a reason why?

We live in a Village where the houses are very close to each other so ANYTHING regarding burning outdoors isnt allowed. I questioned it since that reason is ridiculous being its enclosed & if you see what comes out of the chimney of some homes that have indoor woodburning stoves which they should be more concernedabout.

Then I was told they arent "attractive". Its a huge thing in our county & has become so popular that many towns now institute zoning ordinances regarding them. They chalk it up to the pollution that can come when "improper" things are burned in them. If a zoning law allows it, you have to pay a fee for a permit. All about the $$$

Again I refer back to the indoor wood stoves that I have seen questionable stuff coming out of the chimney including the house RIGHT NEXT DOOR to me!

Ah. Yes I live in the city and there are folks down the street who burn the bills and envelopes etc. You can smell the plastic! But the people across the street switched to the coffee bean logs just for Griffins sake. It was so nice for them to do that!

My step dad lives in the boonies so neighbors and smoke aren't an issue. He sticks a stump in there and it heats the whole house plus a greenhouse for sooo long!
