worried and disappointed

I feel like a unloyal friend to you guys because I haven't been checking in and posting. Now that I need some support to end this worry I'm turning to you. School and clinical practicum are really keeping me busy.

Josh has had a coug since the weekend, horce sounding voice a good bit of last week. I took him to the pediatrician on Tuesday as his peakflows were down from his best of 350 to a we are going down hill 250. She was just going to up his Xopenex treatments and call it a day but decided to check in with the CF clinic (smart move). His regular pediatrician is on vacation. His CF doctor is also on vacation, but she did speak to the doc or saw him last. Turns out on a Valentine's day visit he cultured something (beats me?) so he had her start Josh on bactim. Not much improvement but it was only one day on antibiotics; but by yesterday afternoon he started a low grade temp. Last night it was 100.5 when he went to bed. Later he crawled into my bed with a headache. His AM tep is 100.4 and his peaks flows are at 250. Just frustrated and a little worried. Put calls in to the CF clinic and to the pediatrician (whose receptionist said lets wait on the CF doc for a bit).

The disappointment is that on Monday he is scheduled to leave with his class for a 4 night, 5 day stay at a science and leadership building camp that is geared towards six graders. The nursing staff there will even run his nebs and give all meds (they have dealt with cf kids before). I'm prematurely thinking he won't be able to go because the CF clinic (and rightfully so) always has him stay away from school and crowds when he is sick. He was soooooo looking forward to this trip. And so was I.

OH Man this is one of those torturous decisions. Not knowing what is up with him is where your dilemma is IMHO. IF the bactrim kicks in then I would let him go. IF it doesnt then you need to find what will unles of course its a virus in which nothing but time will kick that and any antibiotics will only help if/when an infection starts. I wish there was an easy out for you eithr way.........Let us know and dont wait on the doctors!

Hi! well I'm new to the website but not new to the strain cf causes a family. My Little Brother was diagnosed with cf when he was 9 months old, Febuary the 3rd 2007 he turned 27 years old!!!!! I know it's a blessing in itself. He has a son that will be 2 in August of 2007 another miracle. I have lived most all my life in hospitals with my family, going to doctors all the time. I know I may not be on the right topic but I feel like if Josh feels up to his trip then he should go! I'm currently pregnant with twins, and we go next week to UAB Genetics for my husband to be tested because I am a Carrier of the gene but luckly do not have the disease. So I Pray that you all stay strong because there is hope!!!! Wishing you all the Best!!!!

Dolline, I'm so sorry that this is happening. I don't know what to tell you, Melissa had some good advice. I just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and Josh, and I hope everything turns out ok. Please let us know how things are working out.

Last time that Erin was on Bactrim, it worked wonders in about 3 days. She was not battling a virus, so it worked fast. I hope he feels better so he can go on his trip...it stinks sometimes!

Melissa, what does IMHO mean? I have been trying to figure it out but can't
