I am in a delimma and don't know what to do. I just would love some advise to get my head around having a port.

I am having IV's the last eight years and was getting them five times a year but, with hard work and so complaint with lung therapies I am having them twice a year and over the years my veins are not holding up and getting a cannula every is painful because it is always three attempts. Anyway my doctor suggested I have a Port.
I love to hear from anyone who has one or getting one.

Yes, I love mine and have had it for 8 years. You can still have problems with them, but far less than getting picc lins and such. It is just so much easier to go on IV's.

Get one. Its WAY better than piccs. Going in the hospital or getting IV's is not horrible like it used to be.
I used to dread it but now, I don't even feel it because I put my emla on, and after 1 hour when the skin is numb, i get accessed and THATS IT!!

SUPER EASY AND CONVENIENT.

That's my opinion.
I've had mine for 5 years.

Hey there!

I actually just got my first port last october and while I didn't like my surgeon and would prefer my port to be in a different spot, I love having it. I was a nervous wreck before getting it and never thought I really needed one. I now wish I would have gotten one a lot sooner than I did. They are soooo much easier to use and deal with than PICC lines or peripheral IVs and they make starting IV courses a lot easier and faster. If you type in "port" in the search box on the main Adults forums page, you can find all kinds of posts with replies to this very question (including my own <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">).

I HIGHLY recommend getting one!
