would you consider lack of appetite a symptom of concern?

Alyssa has a feeding tube for nights, but eats very well during the day. We got the tube because she just couldn't eat enough to keep her weight healthy, not because she didn't eat. She's the least picky eater of my crew and will frequently eat everything on her plate and ask for seconds.

But the last few days she's eaten practically nothing. Picked at her meals, didn't ask for snacks, and refuses to eat breakfast (and even lunch). I don't think its related to the tube, because its happened on days we don't feed at night AND days where we do.

I'm starting to wonder if this means she has an infection starting to brew. She isn't coughing, seems fine, though she has been sleeping more than usual.

I hate how subtle it can all be.

My first thought would be that it's just a phase and she might snap out of it in a couple days. But if she's sleeping more, you might just want to let your clinic know. Is Alyssa good about letting you know when something is bothering her?..like if her chest feels tight or congested? Have you happened to check her temperature, just to be on the safe side? Sometimes a low grade fever can go unnoticed until coughs or sniffles begin. A low grade fever mixed with a lack of appetite and fatigue would definitely concern me to the point of calling our doctor.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we second guess? Why do we worry that we might be calling our docs too frequently? I don't know about you, but I am always worried about being titled a 'basketcase mom'. We tell each other not to feel that way, and to call our clinics with any questions we have, yet we NEVER give ourselves the same permission to do so! I'm glad we have each other to lean on!

Checking output was my first thought too. A blockage would definitely cause a decrease in appetite. Of course it could be just a fluke, and mean nothing, but you're right. Sometimes it's so subtle!

I agree with the others. Is she pooping? Does her belly look distended? Hopefully, it's nothing or maybe she is getting a little stomach bug?

My daughter haas gone through phases where she needs to be encouraged to eat, then for no reason she is eating everything in sight. It waxes and wanes. Keep us updated!
