I had heard of a warning not to be exposed to X-radiation for an extended amount of time...you can ask the Curies...
I was told a chest X-ray should be done inbetween a long timeperiod...something like three to six months.
When I had my hemoptysis, I was Nuked at least three times in a months time...but when I had to get an X-ray for a company sponsored health check, I've refused the X-ray, explaining I just had one a month or so ago already.
Though a CT supposedly omits less radiation (probably because its better targeted), it can equally be dangerous if overexposed.
To this date, Ultrasound has not been proven dangerous, however, they do make certain precautions for doing an echo on a fetus.
I'm really not surprised that X-ray caused cancer, though I'm sorry to hear your sister has it from the amount of X-rays. I do hope it is one that can be controlled and she can get better.
