xoepenex inhaler vs. xoepenex nebulizer treatment

We very recently switched to a Xopenex inhaler and I must admit I love the time savings. But we generally start morning breathing treaments when Katy is still asleep so we neb Albuterol at those times so we don't have to wake her up.

Katy says she can feel the Xopenex in her lungs. So far I have not noticed a difference in her clinically. But she is only 6 so, like Heather, I will continue to let her know her options and talk to her about what makes her feel better or worse.

My other thought is the ability to correctly use an inhaler at a young age. We use a spacer and have very specific instructions from the nurse on how to do it properly. Good luck!

Hi. My son (are 10) had always used xopenex by neb until he turned 8. At that time we tried the inhaler and loved loved, loved...the time savings. His pfts slowly declined (just a tad mind you) and the doc said he had to go back on the neb.
We did the neb again for a year, his pfts are great and with school starting we asked to go back to the inhaler again to save time and the doc agreed. We shall see if his pfts slip again.
If your child is doing fine, why not give it a try? You can always go back.

Hi. My son is age 10 with cf. He always did his xopenex through the neb until age 7. We were asked if we wanted to try the inhaler...we were delighted. He did the inhaler for about a year and a 1/2. Then the doc said his pfts were falling and he wanted to put him back on the neb.
So he went back on the neb for another year and a 1/2 or so. With school coming up, we asked if he could go back on his inhaler again and the doc agreed. It is such a time saver....big time. We are hoping he can stay on it and that his pfts will not fall.
I say if the doc thinks it is ok for your child to try it, go for it...you can always go back to the neb if it dosen't work or your child does not like it.
