Nicole's response made me think of another question:

<b>What were your IGE's prior to Xolair?</b>
My Ige's are considerable low, however the allergist seems to think I can still benefit from the shot, since my allergy testing was high on many items and conventional meds don't help too much.

The allergist is not a member of my CF team, and, my CF team says they have seen no change in patients with low IGE's who are receiving Xolair. So, it's one word against another at this point. (I question how much doctor-watching-costs is involved in the cf team opinion)

Have those of you on Xolair also had this difference in opinion for the same reason, and yet benefited from Xolair?

Sally-exactly what is 'considerable low'? Because my CF team things mine are very low as well but in the 'allergy' world 2-300 is 'super high' so it could be that difference of opinion. The shots are super expensive, my insurance covers mine but they are $1000 x 2 month.

I just called and got my Ige number. Anything below 100 is considered normal, mine is 49.

Has anyone else here had a "normal" ige but received Xolair?

I wanted to say, my CF doctor has suggested thinking about me trying Zolair (if my insurance would cover it.) I, like you, (it sounds like) have a pretty serious asthmatic component to my CF. At my last appt we tested my IgE and it was 55 or so. My CF doc said the shot had been tested on people with slightly elevated IgEs. I'm not sure what exactly constitutes "slightly elevated," but I intend to find out.

Anyway, this is NOT something I've discussed with my allergy doctor yet. I've only been on shots for 5 months or so and just recently reached my maintenance dose, so I think we're waiting to see what kinds of effects those might have.

If you do end up trying it, please make sure to post/blog about your experiences.
