In two weeks my dd is having her yearly check up, you know drawing blood, etc etc. I hate this appt. I'm starting to feel anxious about it. Last year the nurse couldn't find her vein and stuck her several times. I absolutley hate this time and my husband is no help because he doesn't back me up when Im asking the nurses to wash their hands or when I address any issue. I ordered a shirt for dd that says " Wash your hands or don't touch me" I know it sounds bad, but I don't have a choice because everytime I've been there I encounter this issue. I know you don't know me, I don't want to cause trouble for these people ussually I don't cause trouble to anybody but when is about my dd who happens to have this horrible illnes I become very passionate about it. Thanks for letting me vent.

I used to have the same issues at our local clinic, which is one of the reasons we no longer go there. we had a doctor who wouldn't wash hands or use antibacterial foam. I used to get so anxious because of the community waiting room and some other issues. You don't want to make a scene, BUT you are talking about your child's health == long term you don't want her picking up some bug that could affect her lungs and health and possibly even decrease her life expectancy. My doctor's excuse was that they never had a case of cepacia at their clinic, but what if someone has it, they do a culture and it appears after we were there -- didn't want to risk it. I KNOW of at least 3 adult people wcf who have gone to the same hospital who had it.

As for the blood draws, I would mention it to your doctor during or prior to the appointment and ask that they give her emla, a numbing cream right away, so by the time she gets to the lab, she'll be good to go.

Thanks so much for the advice, I didn't know anything about a numbing cream. I hope they have this at this CF Center. I was trying to prepare my dd for her appt. and as soon as I mention going to the dr she started crying. I wish I knew how to make easier every doctor visit.

DS had a well child appointment earlier this week and we'd told them he wouldn't have any shots and then he ended up having to have bloodwork. So we bribed him. Took him toy shopping that evening. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> He's usually pretty good, was mostly scared an anticipating pain, so he whimpered a little bit.... Then he was fine. But last year he had to have 4 shots and since then he hasn't been too thrilled about going to the clinic if needles are going to be involved.
